How to use
- Enter room dimensions, openings, and ceiling choice.
- Choose a sheet size or enter custom sheet dimensions.
- Review sheets needed and optional user-entered material cost.
Input guide
- Default openings use 20 sq ft per door and 15 sq ft per window.
- Sheet area is width x length in feet.
- Waste covers cuts and breakage, not layout optimization.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting ceiling area.
- Using sheet dimensions in inches instead of feet.
- Expecting the sheet count to cover finishing compound or tape.
Assumptions and limitations
- No fire-rated drywall, moisture-rated drywall, local code, framing, finishing level, or installation method judgment is included.
- Opening deductions are estimates.
- Optional price is user-entered only.
Formula
- Wall area = 2 x (length + width) x height.
- Drywall area = wall area + optional ceiling area - openings.
- Area to buy = drywall area x (1 + waste percent / 100).
- Sheets needed = area to buy / sheet area, rounded up.
Example
A 12 ft x 10 ft x 8 ft room with ceiling included has 472 sq ft before openings. With one door, two windows, and 10% waste, 15 sheets of 4 ft x 8 ft drywall are estimated.
