How to use
- Enter one or more lawn areas.
- Set roll coverage and pallet coverage from the sod supplier.
- Use roll and pallet counts to compare pickup or delivery options.
Input guide
- Roll and pallet coverage vary by supplier.
- Waste covers cuts around edges and irregular shapes.
- Measure repair patches separately when possible.
Common mistakes
- Ignoring curves, trees, and beds.
- Ordering with no waste on irregular lawns.
- Assuming every pallet covers the same square footage.
Assumptions and limitations
- No grading, soil prep, irrigation, delivery minimum, or installation timing advice is included.
- Area shapes are approximated as rectangles.
- Supplier coverage values should override defaults.
Formula
- Sod area = sum of each lawn length x width.
- Area with waste = sod area x waste factor.
- Rolls needed = area with waste / roll coverage, rounded up.
- Pallets needed = area with waste / pallet coverage, rounded up.
Example
A 1,200 sq ft lawn with 5% waste needs 1,260 sq ft of sod, or 126 rolls at 10 sq ft each.
FAQ
How much extra sod should I order?
Five to ten percent is common for simple layouts, but irregular edges and repairs may need more.
Why show pallets and rolls?
Some suppliers sell by roll, others by pallet. Showing both makes the material list easier to compare.
